DMA, University of Kentucky MM, University of North Texas BEd, Florida State University Bio Dr. Daniel J. Schmidt is Director of Bands and Professor of Music at Northern Arizona University. Prior to this appointment, he was director of bands and professor of saxophone and double reeds at Mars Hill College in North Carolina. College ensembles under his direction have received international reputations, touring Europe, performing at various conventions including the CBDNA Regional Conventions in 2002, 2006, and 2010 as well as a variety of state MENC conventions. The NAU Wind Symphony has made promotional recordings for Warner Bros. Music and Carl Fischer Music. Prior to Dr. Schmidt's appointment at Mars Hill College, he was the associate director of bands at Syracuse University, directing the 230-piece Pride of the Orange marching band and various concert and pep bands. |

MM, University of Hawai‘i BEd, University of Hawai‘i Bio Derrick Yamane received both his Master of Secondary Education and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. A retired music teacher, he has taught music at various public and private schools on O‘ahu since 1971. Eleven of those years were also spent as Hawai‘i Youth Symphony’s Concert Orchestra Conductor. He credits Mr. Hajime Kuwada, his mentor, and Mr. James Uyeda his inspiration, for encouraging him to pursue music as a profession. He has appeared as guest conductor of the Colorado All-State Honor Band (Gunnison), O‘ahu Band Director Association’s 8th Grade Select Band, and Maui District Massed and Select Band. Mr. Yamane is a lifetime member of the O‘ahu Band Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference and the Hawai‘i Music Educators Association. |
