About:
The CDBF High School Honor Band consists of students selected by their band director. Instrumentation is spread evenly throughout the six (6) school represented in the district. Combined, the ensemble would yield approximately 90-100 students. Students are selected for their instrument proficiency, as well as overall attitude. They are expected to represent the best from their school. Seating is based on a blind audition at the first rehearsal; the excerpts are chosen from music selections for that year. The High School Honor Band has traditionally performed literature at the grade 4 and 5 level. There are three rehearsals with the students before they meet with the guest conductors. The primary focus of these rehearsals is sectional work. Notes and rhythms are cleaned up so that guest conductors can start to shape and work musical elements at their first rehearsal. Due to the length of the High School Honor Band selections, traditionally only two selections are programmed for the concert.
